On January 10, a new Walgreens flagship store opened its door at its former State and Randolph location. The State and Randolph location was home to Walgreens from 1926 to 2005. Since 2005 the site served as a Loehmann’s. Now that Walgreens is back, it is like no other. It is a two story pharmacy that has much more to offer.
Walgreens President and CEO Greg Wasson said, “this store brings together our most innovative, forward-thinking initiatives under one stunning roof, and we couldn’t be more proud to make its debut in our hometown.” The store will feature iPad guides to help customers find the right health product they are looking for, and an in-store clinic will allow customers to receive vaccinations, treatments, and health examinations.
Taking wellness even further, the LOOK Boutique beauty department offers high quality cosmetics and beauty items. There will be beauty advisors trained to help customers find what’s right for them. You can even stop by to get a manicure, pedicure, or your eyebrows trimmed. For fun or for serious purposes, you can try out their machine that takes your picture and shows how you will look wearing a make-up item, you can even share these photos with your friends.
Not only will they continue to sell canned and bottled beverages, but there will be a made to order juice bar made from fresh fruits and vegetables. Walgreen’s is taking a trip down memory lane by offering its popular chocolate malted milkshakes, invented in 1922. If it’s coffee that you want, the Upmarket Café is the place to get premium coffee prepared by an in store barista. The café also includes a bakery for fresh bread and pastries. If you’re looking for more edible options, there is a fresh sushi and sashimi bar. And meal options don’t stop there. They also offer on-the-go meals including salads, wraps, and sandwiches.
The store is aimed at tourist, workers and residents from the area “who are willing to pay for new, internationally sourced wines, cosmetics and other goods,” according to Walgreen’s vice president and chief merchandising officer, Bryan Pugh. The store’s address is 151 N State. They are open from 6:30 AM to midnight Mondays through Fridays, 8 AM to midnight on Saturday, and 8 AM to 10 PM on Sunday.
