Unlike dear Spongebob here, what I learned in journalism school so far has not been “blankity, blank, blank.” In fact, J2150 has been conditioned so much into my life that I had a dream that I was conducting an audio interview with someone. Even my REM-stated brain remembered to get two clear audio interviews and scoped out lots of good nat sound (I think I was at a dress making shop or something. Perhaps it was a psychic vision of events to come). It appears that you can’t even outrun journalism in your dreams. No one is safe now.

This week I did some “jouranlisming” that is totally new in this adapting world of journalism. Instead of creating a story using a video camera, audio recorder and DSLR, I did a story all on my iPhone – in one hour (or less). The link to my final product is in my last post, but I’ll go over how it felt completing the assignment in such a short amount of time in this post. Continue reading on WordPress.com The word of journalism is changing. Click the link to read my mobile assignment on NaNoWriMo at MU’s College Avenue Residence Hall.
https://steller.co/stories/377660053672428973 Raise your hand if you thought working with audio would be easy *raises hand.* Now keep your hands up if working with it was actually easy *….puts hand down.* May I just say, as person who is as visual as it gets, creating an audio story was actually pretty challenging. Continue reading on WordPress.com It’s Homecoming for MU Tigers so let’s keep this post brief so we can get back to homecoming festivities! In this past week’s discussion, the topic of storyboards was brought up. For a person like me who probably definitely maybe wants to go into television, storyboarding (if that’s even a verb) can seem like God’s gift to media. But I do have some reserves. So here are my pro’s and con’s for storyboards.
Continue reading on WordPress.com Personal post time that relates to journalism and not so much the lecture! And no, the title does not suggest a C.S. Lewis book is coming out about journalism. But at the cross-section of my love for journalism and theatrics comes one of the greatest shows I could possibly encounter: The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.
Continue reading on WordPress.com Here and now as I cheer for the Missouri Tigers who are making no such progress in their game of football, I reflect on Mizzou’s very own Sarah Hill’s lesson in writing for the ear. If I ultimately do plan on going into the broadcast field, then this information is of the utmost importance to me.
Continue reading on WordPress.com I have to say, going through my first month of college has been nearly a breeze. Not to say that classes are easy, but I've found adjusting to college life quite easy. As a freshman, there have been a lot of groups on campus that are showing me the ropes and helping me get a move on. Yesterday, I attended a meeting for MUTV's 23 News. In the spur of the moment (after running 15 minutes late) I picked up my first package! This Monday, I will be interviewing comedian Melissa Villasenor after her performance at Memorial Student Union. With luck, my interview could be aired on MUTV! Second, I have been meeting with Mizzou's National Association of Black Journalists. Thus far, I've gotten a few broadcasting tips and met some pretty awesome people who are going into the journalism field as well. Lastly, (I'll combine these two) I've been doing a bit of work study at the Columbia Missourian, and I'm looking forward to writing for The Maneater. I'm not writing for the Missourian (right now), but just the opportunity to be there is amazing enough. It's only the fourth week of school and I'm already tied with projects. Oh, and as a bonus, I've also visited Mizzou's KCOU FM radio station. I've been on-air twice to be interviewed about my freshman experience at Mizzou. If this is only the first 4 weeks, what will the next 4 years have to bring? |
