Personal post time that relates to journalism and not so much the lecture! And no, the title does not suggest a C.S. Lewis book is coming out about journalism. But at the cross-section of my love for journalism and theatrics comes one of the greatest shows I could possibly encounter: The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

I know that we talked a bit about Ferguson in our last lecture, but for a topic that has been covered in so many forms and so many angles, I will move today’s conversation away from the tense racial matter of that subject, and more towards taking a look out of the diversity lens in the media. Specifically, I’d like to focus on the recent news this past week in which comedian Michael Che was announced to have been added to the Saturday Night Live team as the latest Weekend Update anchor (fun fact: if getting my degree in Broadcast Journalism meant I could anchor Weekend Update, I would jump at the chance).
Continue reading on WordPress.com The holidays just keep getting better and better. Only a few months ago, it seemed to Sherlock fans that we'd be getting a lump of coal this season when we learned the premiere of Sherlock season 3 would be pushed back due to complications in the actors' schedules (side-eyes The Hobbit director Peter Jackson for stealing the stars of the show). Aside from leaked Comic Con audio posts and secret "Setlock" photos, fans have been in the dark for quiet some time. But now, it feels something like Hanukkah or the 12 days of Christmas, because BBC has been showering us with gift after gift. The first promo photos for the show? Fans swooned. And the 30 second teaser trailer? Brilliant. Then, BBC One played "secret Santa" by presenting Whovians and Sherlockians who watched The Doctor Who 50th Anniversary special with yet another teaser trailer for the show sporting the hashtag #SherlockLives. The list of BBC's generosities is long, my friend, and they can't seem to keep their hands off the series. But after all of their generosities, one mystery that not even Sherlock himself could solve was still left in the air: when would fans actually get to see season 3 in action? The news came first to US fans when PBS announced it would be premiering season 3 on January 19. Hooray! But what about the UK? Well, BBC had more extravagant plans in mind. On November 28 they informed fans to be on the look-out for something special during London's morning rush hour. What did fans find that morning? A full-on hearse parading through the streets with a "SHERLOCK 01-01-14" display made out of flower arrangements. Pretty clever, BBC. Indeed, #SherlockLives As of late, there has been one extra special gift under BBC's sleeve: the announcement of their real Christmas treat. On December 25, they will air a special mini-episode of Sherlock via BBC Red Button. Knowing show-runner Steven Moffat's tricks and treats for Doctor Who, he's become a fan of these small features before the premiere of his shows. Hopefully for fans outside of the UK, the mini-episode will be released via YouTube. Though, until January 1st, we must wait. Will BBC be gracious enough to tease fans with more to come before the release date? Let's hope so. If not, have some new photos from season 3 and try to deduce what's going on in this scene.
